BEDS for BABIES - Updated March 14, 2007

This is a very important mission and we need many volunteers in every capacity. There is a need for volunteers to handle publicity, fund-raisers, and grant research. Please come forward with feet, hand, heart, and mind to serve.

At the end of February 2007, approximately 216 cribs, toddler beds, mattresses, and bedding sets have been delivered to those needing beds for their babies and toddlers. We continually get crib requests each week and we are also looking for ways to obtain cribs, mattresses and bedding. If you have ideas, please talk to Debbie Shew or Bill Wiseman.

Phone Captains are still needed for the November and December 2007. If you are interested in becoming a Phone Captain, please call the Church office and leave a message for Pat Kelly or contact her, Debbie or Bill at Church. Please consider taking and splitting the month by sharing with a fellow member. If you need Team Leader Training, please call Debbie or Bill for training. Phone Captains pick up the phone messages for the month and pass the information along to volunteers willing to deliver the bed. To help keep an accurate inventory, please sign in when cribs have been received, and sign out when a crib has been delivered. We are asking the Phone Captain or Delivery Volunteer to return the Waiver Forms to Pat Kelly once a bed has been delivered. Thank you for your help and Support.

Our Roster of Phone Captains for 2007 is listed below:

March – Tom Zoller           April – Jill Herman             May – Michelle Grier

June – Bill Wiseman          July – Fran Chase              August – Kim Boedeker

Sept. – Lucille Griffith       October – Pat Kelly           Nov. and Dec. - ??????????

The Inventory on hand as of March ‘07 is as follows (Numbers are approximate):

New Toddler Beds                      2        Portacribs (Pack & Plays)            6
Bassinets                                   1        Bedding Sets Avail For Delivery   18

With the onset of spring, please keep an eye out for used cribs, mattresses, blankets, sheets and mattress covers at garage sales or thrift stores. If you find something, you may purchase them and either submit an invoice for reimbursement or declare them as a designated gift. If you wish, you may contact a member of the Ministry Team to let them follow up on the purchase.

Our plan for the future of this mission is to provide a bed each time one is needed. Keeping babies and children safe from unnecessary death and spreading God’s love in the process is our goal. We are also hopeful that other churches in our community will partner with us and speculate that someday this will be an interfaith ministry much like the food pantry. Through our efforts, Honeycreek Church in New Carlisle has embarked on servicing their area with Beds for Babies.

We have received grants from the Miami Presbytery over the past three years totaling $3,000 and through the efforts of Debbie Shew a grant from the Relizon Employees Foundation at WorkflowOne for $1,000. She intends to apply for other grants this summer.

There is always a need of anyone interested in helping with this mission. More hands make it possible to accomplish more with our limited resources. Any questions please call the church office at 848-2378.
