BEDS for BABIES - Updated April 15, 2009
This is a very important mission and we need many volunteers in every capacity. There is a need for volunteers to handle publicity, fund-raisers, and grant research. Please come forward with feet, hand, heart, and mind to serve.
At the end of March 2009, approximately 516 cribs, mattresses, and bedding sets have been delivered to those needing beds for their babies. We continually get crib requests each week and we are also looking for ways to obtain cribs, mattresses and bedding. If you have ideas, please talk to Debbie Shew or Bill Wiseman.
Each month, we have one person who serves as Phone Captain. Phone Captains pick up the phone messages for the month and pass the information along to volunteers willing to deliver the cribs. If you are interested in becoming a Phone Captain, please call the Church office and leave a message for Pat Kelly or contact her, Debbie or Bill at Church. Please consider taking and splitting the month by sharing with a fellow member. If you need Team Leader Training, please call Debbie or Bill for training. To help keep an accurate inventory, please make sure that the “Hold Harmless Forms” are returned to Pat Kelly. Thank you for your help and Support.
Our remaining roster of Phone Captains for 2009 is listed below:
April – Tom Zoller May – Barb Wagner June – Shirley Rogers
July – Fran Chase August – Jill Swabe Sept. – Lucille Griffith
October – Mike Seiler Nov. – Steve BerryhillDec. – Ruby Doggett
The Inventory on hand as of April ‘09 is as follows (Numbers are approximate):
New cribs 25 New Mattresses 67 Good Used cribs 10 to 20
Used Mattresses 2 Blankets 68 Other Coverings 41
Boys Blanket Sets 4 Girls 4 Generic 6
With the onset of spring, please keep an eye out for used cribs, mattresses, blankets, sheets and mattress covers at garage sales or thrift stores. If you find something, you may purchase them and either submit an invoice for reimbursement or declare them as a designated gift. If you wish, you may contact a member of the Ministry Team to let them follow up on the purchase.
Our plan for the future of this mission is to provide a bed each time one is needed. Keeping babies and children safe from unnecessary death and spreading God’s love in the process is our goal. We are also hopeful that other churches in our community will partner with us and speculate that someday this will be an interfaith ministry much like the food pantry. Through our efforts, Honeycreek Church in New Carlisle has embarked on servicing their area with Beds for Babies.
We have received grants from the Miami Presbytery over the past three years totaling $3,000 and through the efforts of Debbie Shew a grant the Morgan Family Foundation for $20,000 and from the Relizon Employees Foundation at WorkflowOne for $1,000. She is pursuing other possible future grants.
There is always a need of anyone interested in helping with this mission. More hands make it possible to accomplish more with our limited resources. Any questions please call the church office at 848-2378.
